Significance of Haridwar City
Haridwar is a highly revered city in the state of Uttarakhand. The holy town is a major attraction for the pilgrims around the world.
Har ki Pauri or footsteps of Lord Shiva is considered the most sacred site in Hardwar. Haridwar is also known as the home of Devi Sati and the palace of her father Daksha. In ancient times, the town was also referred to as Gangadwára (गंगाद्वार), the place where the Ganges descends to the plains.
The city has a very rich popularity among the pilgrimage destinations. Haridwar city is also known as the “Gateway to the Lord”. The word Haridwar is combined of two words ‘Hari’ stands for Lord and ‘Dwar’ stands for gate. That is why this sacred site is famous as “Gateway to the Lord”. This sacred place is located on the bank of the sacred river Ganga. There are many shrines, temples and ashrams in the town to offer prayers. This is a hustling site with crowded markets.
The place Haridwar occupies an area of 12 sq. kilo meter and elevated at 2927 meters high above the mean sea level. And the Haridwar district has an area of 2360 sq. kilo meter, located at the Northern India. Rishies, pundits, men, women and sages come to Haridwar to take a holy dip in the holy River Ganga. In Hindu mythos, the most Sacred river Ganga has a rich status for the Hindus or devotees. The place is also very famous for arts, science and culture. There are so many institutions of arts, science and culture in which so many students are admitting every year. Rishikesh, Dehradun and Mussoorie are the major tourist attractions in the area. Tourists come here every year to spend their holiday vacation. The better period to visit the place is from April to October.
Reaching Haridwar and Ashram
All pilgrims, who want to visit Haridwar, have to reach New Delhi first. There are several trains from Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Warangal to either New Delhi or H.Nizamuddin.
After getting down in New Delhi, one has to reach Kashmere Gate Bus Staion to board a bus to Haridwar. There are too many buses from New Delhi to Haridwar in a day. However, there is only one direct train from Andhra Pradesh / Telangana to Haridwar. The train, with train number 12687 Madurai – Dehradun Express, starts at Vijayawada on every Monday and Thursday.
After getting down in Haridwar, one can hire Auto Rickshaw and reach Sukhi Nadi centre where you can easily find the banner of our satram and enter it.
